Adding greenery to your coastal bedroom can really enhance the outdoor, cabana-like feel of the space. This bedroom by Maggie Cruz opens up to the pool, so a calm interior that didn't compete with the landscaping was essential. There are quite a few spinoffs of coastal design that you can explore if you want something a bit more rustic or refined. For instance, people who've really been enjoying Beyoncé's latest masterpiece, Cowboy Carterˆ—or who simply adore a neutral gingham print—may want to check out the coastal cowgirl design trend.

Beautiful teal wainscoting paired with vibrant oranges in this coastal bedroom give it a fun bohemian aesthetic that's balanced by the greenery, artwork, and bright white walls, ceiling, and bedding. While design scheme by Claire Thomas is definitely for the free-spirited, it's still giving us cool beach-girl vibes. For a project on an island off the coast of New England, Terri Ricci interiors surrounded a custom dining table with vintage Axel Einar Hjorth chairs. For a project in the Marina District of San Francisco, Jute filled the space with natural materials, including wood floors and table and chairs, linen seat cushions, and alpaca ombre curtains from Rosemary Hallgarten. Bunsa Studio incorporated Scandinavian and Japanese influences in the design of a Florida beach house. The primary bedroom features cedar plank-clad walls that add extra warmth, and Bunsa furnished the space with a pair of BDDW leather nightstands and Lindsey Adelman’s ethereal Cherry Bomb chandelier.

Thanks to the mix of modern and vintage pieces and the abundance of deep hues, we're getting major California coastal energy from this bedroom. Dee Murphy wanted a "California beachy but elevated vibe" for this oceanside home, and she achieved it by using a fern print wallpaper in a rich blue, lighter wood for the canopy bed, a vintage gold picture frame, and a wicker table lamp.

Stay in the know

That is probably the highlight here - and it is a big highlight. We have stayed numerous times at Dayton House. The location is great, close to everything you would want to do. The buildings are older and some rooms need to be updated. While we were there they were updating the South tower. All in all we enjoy the location no matter what time of year we go.

Myrtle Beach offers a plethora of dining, entertainment, shows and more. We had to change rooms a few times BUT staff helped and was very helpful. Everyone we encountered was so friendly. I cannot wait to come back soon to such a beautiful city. Great pool and picknic tables with umbrelas. Could see the ocean from our room.

Fantastic Place to Stay

I liked the location, we were close to everything and could walk. I would ask for a room on a higher floor (we were on the 2nd floor) just to be further away from the pool. I would go again...the price was good for ocean front, the room was perfect for us. Loved everything about Dayton House-rooms were nice n clean, beds were comfy, location was great, right on the beach. Our ocean front rooms were great and had kitchenettes and a balcony.

Limited time offer, limited availability. Have done some updating in recent years. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Grounds are always in excellent condition.

Time of Our Lives

We have stayed at Dayton House 3 of the 4 times we visited MB. Due to physical disabilities I cannot walk in the sand, and love to sit under the "yellow umbrellas", near the pool. The pool is a walk-in pool that doesn't get too deep, so I'm able to enjoy walking (for exercise) and resting by the side. Rooms are clean and just what we need. We love having the fridge (for insulin and food) and make sandwiches for lunch, then go out each night. We love the attractions in the area too.

I love this place!

This is the fifth time we have stayed at this resort. We stay in one of their efficient units which is very convenient. It is a old resort but well kept and clean.

I have stay at the Dayton House for several years now, but I have also stayed at other hotels in mrytle beach , and none of them compare to the Dayton House. The people are so friendly who work their, and somehow they remember my name from all the other times , I have stayed there. And if you have a problem, you call them , and they are their the same day to fix your problem. I love the tables outside where you came sit outside and listen to the ocean, and the yellow umbrellas are a big plus.this has to be the cleanest hotel, I have been in.

This 1921, Mayan-inflected Frank Lloyd Wright house was originally built as a “progressive theatrical community” space by activist and oil heiress Aline Barnsdall. Today it’s the centerpiece of Barnsdall Park and is open for tours during the park’s popular Friday night wine tasting events. He was the one who decided on their profession, sending them off to MIT and then demanding they move out to Pasadena once they graduated. No word on whether he determined their style as well, but no matter who the progenitor, this graceful house originally built for one of the heirs of the Proctor & Gamble fortune remains one of the best examples of their work. However you decide to experience it, don’t miss the remarkable zig-zag staircase, a joyous element that adds a bit of fun to the perfection of the house. Welcome to My House is a captivating and impactful song that was released by Nu Breed and Jesse Howard.

As a Music Technician, I’ve had the opportunity to explore various genres of music and analyze the meaning behind different songs. Today, I want to delve into the powerful message behind the song “Welcome to My House” by Nu Breed. Nu Breed and Jesse Howard are both talented musicians with impressive backgrounds. Nu Breed is an acclaimed singer-songwriter known for his soulful vocals, while Jesse Howard is a versatile artist with a passion for R&B music. They both have a wealth of experience in the music industry, and their collaboration on Welcome to My House showcases their incredible artistry and ability to connect with audiences.

Welcome Beyond hand-picks small hotels and holiday rentals that are truly original and reflect their owners’ passion for distinctive architecture and design. In writing “Welcome to My House,” the artists were not just penning down words; they were chronicling a lifestyle that many can relate to but few can articulate. The song captures the essence of a life lived on the frontiers of society, where the rules are different, and survival depends on strength and unity. “Welcome to My House” starts with the lines, “Y’all what’s comin’ in / And now you’re backin’ out”. This isn’t just about physical defense; it’s about standing your ground, a metaphor for life’s battles.

The shotgun in the lyrics is more than a weapon; it’s a symbol of the resolve to protect what’s dear at any cost. Joanna holds a BSc in English Literature and uses her expertise in literary analysis to uncover the deeper meaning of her favorite songs. The second verse touches on the realities of living in a world where self-defense may be necessary. Nu Breed sings, “I got a baby girl inside this house, and right now she’s sound asleep. So it’s probably best for the both of us if you just turn around and leave.

Inside the Most Comprehensive Compendium of Midcentury-Modern Architecture Ever

Inside, the emphasis is placed on functionality, meaning all aspects of the design are meant to make life easier and more efficient. In keeping with the other characteristics, the interior tends to be minimalist and Scandinavian in appearance. Flat planes and clean lines are hallmarks of this house style, with the roofline considered one of the most iconic features of the Mid-Century Modern home. To add character to a room, you’ll often see furniture, rugs, window treatments, and artwork with geometric patterns resembling starbursts, atomic, and boomerang features. Simple furnishings with clean lines and a muted color palette complement the simple exterior of a Mid-Century Modern home. You’ll often see the use of large statement pieces, like sculptures or plants rather than small trinkets or collections, and furniture is kept simple with sleek lines with wooden or metal pin-style legs.

Midcentury-Modern Architecture: Everything You Should Know About the Funky and Functional Style

Quincy Jones and Whitney R. Smith in collaboration with structural engineer Edgardo Contini and landscape designer Theodore Payne. We had to figure out which piece of wood is which color, the elaborate interplay between the posts and beams with the floor and ceiling, how certain volumes and forms interact. In a lot of ways, the process was like making a painting in three dimensions,” Weatherford says. Jason Statham—hero of action-thriller films like the Fast & Furious franchise, Snatch, and The Transporter—may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of midcentury-modern design fanatics. But it takes only a few minutes of conversation with the actor to realize he has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the movement’s design philosophies, major architects, and—most importantly—where to buy houses that fit the description.

Access to the Outdoors

Outdoors, the grounds are dotted with Italian stone pines, and host a summer kitchen, several spots ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining, and picturesque vistas overlooking the park-like Arroyo Seco and Colorado State Bridge. “We kept the existing paneling,” Redmond Warner explains of the primary bedroom. And then once we kind of started layering things that felt more colorful and softer, it just became something so lovely.” The bedside tables are from Lawson-Fenning, and the sconces are Apparatus. Josef Albers artwork, a Mansour Modern rug, and a vintage sofa sourced through 1stDibs are additional standouts. “When I built in steel, what you saw was what you got,” the plain-spoken Koenig once said.

Sloping Roofline and Stone Exterior

Cavelike but not dark thanks to some well-placed large skylights, the Elrod Home is almost verging on UFO territory. As KAA Design’s Grant Kirkpatrick told us, “Palm Springs is a bastion of classic midcentury architecture,” and this is probably among the desert town’s most imaginative structures. Lark House, originally designed in 1958 by the esteemed Seattle architect Al Bumgardner, has undergone a sophisticated transformation to cater to the lifestyle of its modern inhabitants while preserving its historical essence. In 2023, SHED Architecture & Design took on the task of infusing contemporary functionalities into this private residence, located in the heart of Seattle, WA. The five-bedroom home features an atrium, walls of glass, and an abundance of custom built-ins.

Mid-century decor elements, including tin ceilings and split-level spaces, combine modern elements to create something beautiful. Another key characteristic of the mid-century modern house is its relationship with nature. Architects working in this style often incorporated large windows and open floor plans into their designs, which provided scenic views and let in lots of light. Additionally, sliding glass doors enticed and encouraged residents to go outside and explore their surroundings. The original midcentury modern homes emphasized nature and lifestyle, so they were built with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the yard, sliding glass doors, and many access points to the outdoors.

“There’s just something really appealing about the symmetry and openness of things,” he says of the homes. In 1961, John Lautner designed the West Hollywood home for interior designer and concert pianist Marco Wolff. For Lautner, who had apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s, the home was an opportunity to flex his creative muscles. What began as an arduous and almost vertical plot of land resulted in, perhaps, the acme of midcentury-modern residential architecture on the West Coast. With this home, Lautner leaned into the primal state of nature, demanding that his audience turn their preconceived notion of domesticity on its head. It was a bold statement of how humans once lived—among the trees, the rocks, perched atop a hill—and the architect stamped his thumbprint on it.

Built in 1967, the newly renovated home was designed by architect James Allen Walter. The Hoppuses asked Marmol Radziner to incorporate drought-resistant native plants into the garden in order to be sensitive to the California landscape. In March 1954, Clarence “Buck” Stahl and Carlotta May Gates drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and got married in a chapel.

Emphasis on the Outdoors

Original mid century modern homes sell for millions of dollars in California – even for just a one-bedroom home. New builds have become expansive, sprawling properties with thousands of square feet to show off and angular, clean shapes that stand out on any street in America. As for this house, there’s lots to love—especially for fans of midcentury modern design and lakeside life. And, unlike the main residence, the pool house vibrates with bright colors and numerous playful design details.

Partial brick or glass walls, fireplaces centered in rooms, and cabinetry also add depth and variation in elevation in the homes' interiors. Interior decorating styles that draw inspiration from midcentury style, like Scandinavian design and Danish Modern, have made this style accessible to millions of new homeowners.

For John Ike, a partner of San Francisco–based architecture and design firm Ike Baker Velten, the continued draw to midcentury-modern architecture seems to be a product of specific design elements. “I think it’s really the materials, the open flowing spaces, and the real sunny feel to them that draws people to the architectural style to this day,” explains Ike, who lives in a midcentury-modern home himself in San Diego. Located in prestigious lower Bel Air is a stunning Mid-Century Modern and ultra-private estate on nearly an acre of land.

Plan: #161-1221

The hallmark of these mid-century modern exteriors lies in their ability to blend effortlessly with the surrounding environment, often achieved through large windows and sliding glass doors that invite abundant natural light and provide breathtaking views. We’ll see how flat or low-sloping roofs create a distinctive visual appeal, while carefully selected accents and landscaping choices enhance the overall aesthetic. Mid-century modern house plans refer to architectural designs that emerged in the mid-20th century (1940s-1960s). These plans typically feature open floor plans, large windows, integration with nature, and a focus on simplicity and functionality. Characterized by clean lines, low-pitched or flat rooflines, organic shapes, and an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living, mid-century modern house plans celebrate the marriage of form and function. More than 60 houses, however, have been designated as heritage sites, ensuring their survival. And with books like this atlas drumming up even more interest in the style, hopefully more structures will be preserved as crucial pieces of architectural history. In the design world, is there any style that’s having more of a Renaissance moment than midcentury modern?

Plenty of Natural Light and Bright Interiors

Mid century modern homes are residential, single-family homes built using modernist principles and design tactics like cantilevered walls, flat-facing surfaces, and simple lines. Midcentury modern is a term that’s thrown around a lot these days, but what is it really? Midcentury-modern architecture is not simply anything that was designed and built in the middle of the 20th century, but in fact an architectural style with a defined set of principles and influences.

For generations of pilgrims, gawkers, architecture students, and midcentury-modern aficionados, it would be known simply as the Stahl House. Because this style is pegged more to time than geography, there are a few answers that could be plausible. Depending on your preferred versions of modernism from this era, some might say that the Bauhaus school led to mid century modern design in America. One of the most unique of the midcentury-modern homes, Lautner’s Elrod House was immortalized in the 1971 James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever.

However, the movement became popularized in the 1950s, so some of the original mid-century modern homes will be from that era. Families often struggled financially and were too worried about soldiers away at war to be concerned with interior design elements. The appeal of the mid-century modern style comes from its ability to nod toward nostalgia while taking steps toward modern living. This old-meets-new style combines simple designs with dramatic accents to create something almost effortlessly beautiful.

His eagle eye for midcentury fixer-uppers is was what first drew him to a house on Rising Glen Road in Los Angeles. “I’m always looking for places to either renovate or to buy, to move up the ladder,” Statham says. It was quite downtrodden and had been neglected, as most of these of midcenturies have.” Statham quickly decided to purchase the place and gut renovate it to serve as a multi-use property for guests, as well as his office and gym. The exterior of the home seen from street level shows the cantilevered roofs, and it also exemplifies Lautner’s vision to design the very anthesis of a boxed home. While many Modernist movements capture this interest in the experimental, mid-century modern architecture has resonated over decades to remain a popular style today. This version is inspired by international architects and heavily influenced by the Bauhaus movement. Homes are simple, with little to no decoration, and typically finished with stucco.

As you’ll soon find, each one displays a fresh contemporary take on a now classic style. After World War II, Americans put a major emphasis on lifestyle, family time, and spending time in nature. To showcase their unmistakably modernist approach to everyday architecture, mid-century modern architects employed geometric forms and asymmetrical compositions in their designs. Unlike structures built in popular preceding styles—including Beaux-Arts and Arts and Crafts—mid-century modern homes exhibit little historic influence and lack visual formality. Mid century modern homes are characterized by the geometric lines of the architecture, flat, angled roofs that extend beyond the walls, and flat surfaces without ornamentation.

The sunken kitchen is emblazoned with deep red tile counters, while the fireplace is painted yellow. Both colors, along with orange, appear in the tile floor as well as in the furnishings and decor. The pavilion, which overlooks the tennis court, also includes dual bathrooms and a vintage sauna. One of the easiest ways to get a mid-century modern house is to build a home that intentionally has a mid-century modern floor plan. At America’s Best House Plans, we offer an array of mid-century modern house plans for you to choose from. The interior of mid-century modern homes was equally as important as the exterior.

The bassist and singer did not know anything about the architect Harold “Hal” Levitt when shopping for a home in Los Angeles with his wife Skye Hoppus back in 2004. It was only after the couple fell in love with and purchased a midcentury-modern house by Levitt that they learned about his legacy. Our mission is to help people visualize, create & maintain beautiful homes. We bring to you inspiring visuals of cool homes, specific spaces, architectural marvels and new design trends. Function is the framework and foundation for designing a Mid-Century Modern space. Similar to the Scandinavian approach, Mid-Century Modern homes consist of warm, inviting tones, versatile furniture, and understated decoration, emphasizing the room’s function.

Compared to its counterparts featuring sharp lines and right angles, this style uses more natural shapes. Because of this, an organic Mid-Century Modern home in the desert will have an entirely different look and feel than one in the forest. Thanks to many regional architects, there are wonderful examples of Mid-Century Modern homes in most cities.

Hot Wheels 2017 Super Treasure Hunts Cruise Bruiser Price Guide

hot wheels cruise bruiser

So when I said the Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser takes me back to my childhood, you can see why. This car would have been perfect for the demolition derby had it been made in the 1980s (since it most likely would have been all metal). To my recollection, Hot Wheels has never done a demolition derby specific casting. We’ve seen releases to the liking of the Demolition Derby 5-Pack (in 2010), but none of the castings were any you would see in a real demolition derby. So it would have been really cool to have a real demolition derby car as a kid instead of crashing a bunch of high-end exotic cars into each other. When images of the design first surfaced, many collectors wondered what this “crocodile offspring of Mickey Mouse wearing sunglasses and sporting a killer mustache” represented and now you can be safely assured, its purely from the mind of Robert Heath.

Since this is an #Unlicensed Hot Wheels “fantasy car” — or “Hot Wheels original” — there is no affiliation with any automaker as this one in from the mind of Hot Wheels Designer, Dmitriy “Dima” Shakhmatov. His working title, “Momma’s Little Stinker” never panned out with Mattel legal, so the “Cruise Bruiser” was born. Bruiser Cruiser is a fantasy casting resembling that of a highly-customized three-wheeled chopper with a race car style wing on the rear. The casting comes with a Bumper Claw similar to all other Chopcycles castings which allow them to be used on Sizzlers Fat Track. Bruiser is an original design depicting a performance-oriented contemporary muscle car with retro-inspired styling.

The trunk of the casting will always feature a 5SP spare tire no matter what the main wheel type is. Beyond the awesomeness of this #Demolition Derby Vehicle casting, I’m willing to bet that if you weren’t at Irwindale Speedway on May 7, 2016, you don’t know the story behind the graphics on this one. The #92 “River Rat”-mobile is the creation of Hot Wheels (Tracks & Playsets) Designer, Robert Heath. Chances are, you’ve seen images of the newest #Cruise Bruiser from the #2017 Hot Wheels #HW Daredevils series — and hopefully, you’ve had success finding it as part of the “K” cast assortment along with its Super #Treasure Hunt variant. If you haven’t seen it, we have that covered here, along with a few juicy tidbits of collector candy.

The Cruise Bruiser is a Hot Wheels original design based on a demolition derby station wagon. The Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser from the 2016 HW Daredevils Series is an unlicensed Hot Wheels demolition derby station wagon. Now some collectors may prefer the omission of the graphics on top of the standard release, and that is fine however, you have to appreciate the “more authentic approach” with the top graphics on the $TH — it even has painted roof rails! Also, those that keep their cars carded are deprived of the “TH” logo on the $TH as its only on the side that faces the blister card, replacing the #92. The Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser Super Treasure Hunt from 2017 is a highly detailed and collectible version of the Cruise Bruiser car model.

It may be a pretty young casting collection, but its one that has gotten plenty of coverage here on OTD. Would you like to see more #Demolition Derby Vehicles of this nature? My affinity for the #Cruise Bruiser started back in 2015 when the casting was first released as part of the 2016 HW Daredevils series. Its a jacked-up, #Demolition Derby Vehicle reminiscent of late ’60s / early ’70s land yachts — especially the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.

Since the #Cruise Bruiser was selected to be one of 15 Super #Treasure Hunts in the #2017 Hot Wheels mainline, its always fun to compare the $TH release with the common release. Sure, there is the #Real Riders versus standard basic wheels comparison, and also the #Spectraflame Paint versus enamel paint comparison, but those take a back seat to the added/alternate graphics on this release. Click on any of the links in the above paragraph, or check out the #Cruise Bruiser tag, to catch up all of its previous releases.
